Regional Construction Coordination & Multi-Agency Special Events Planning

An important complement to TRANSCOM’s Operations Information Center is the Regional Construction Coordination Program, which helps member agencies avoid restricting capacity on parallel or intersecting roadways.

TRANSCOM maintains a long-term database of all construction projects planned or underway in the region. This allows staff to locate potential conflicts between projects, notify the agencies involved, identify ways of mitigating the conflicts, and assist the member agencies with implementing solutions.

On a real-time basis, TRANSCOM’s extensive construction information allows it to identify ways to maximize capacity around major incidents and emergency projects. Member agencies sometimes cancel or modify a planned construction project if the project is on a key diversion route around a major incident.

In addition, TRANSCOM prepares a Weekly Traffic and Transit Advisory listing all construction planned for the region during the upcoming week. The Advisory also lists special events that are expected to impact transportation. Updates to the Weekly Advisory, as well as emergency construction information and confirmations of planned projects, are reported over the pager network.

The Special Events Planning Program complements the Regional Construction Coordination Program by assisting with cooperative interagency planning for unique or annual regional events, such as sporting events, parades, or festivals.
