Trips123 - New York/New Jersey/Connecticut Model Deployment Initiative

USDOT awarded a grant to the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut metropolitan region as part of its Metropolitan Model Deployment Initiative (MMDI). These monies are being used to implement the Trips123 Program, which will implement a traveler information system to provide multi-modal, transportation agency verified, information to the public.

This information will be available via the Internet as well as through a dial-in telephone system at no cost to users. Additionally, a customized traveler information service will be offered, for a nominal fee, which will proactively provide route-specific information for all routes defined by the subscriber. The subscriber will also have the ability to select the method of receiving the information from the following media: telephone; facsimile; e-mail; and pager.

In addition to real-time information, route-planning capabilities will be available for transit services in the region. Using schedule information from both public and private transit carriers, a user will be able to plan a regional transit trip by providing their desired starting and finishing points. The transit itinerary planner will be accessible through the free Internet service.

The NY/NJ/CT metropolitan region was one of four metropolitan areas in the country to receive an MMDI grant. Trips123 is a public-private partnership, with TRANSCOM taking the lead for the public side and NEC Joint Venture (a joint venture of PB Farradyne and TransCore) taking the lead for the private side. New York State DOT is the administrative lead for the public sector team.
